Kolkata woke up to a bright sunny morning on Wednesday accompanied by humidity-related discomfort. However, the weather body forecasted heavy rainfall in south Bengal from Thursday.
The Alipore Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert of heavy rain along with thunderstorm for six districts of South Bengal rain with lightning on Wednesday. North and south 24 Parganas, east and west Midnapore, Murshidabad and Nadia have high probability of rainfall.
In addition, scattered showers are likely in rest of the districts down south. Rains are expected to intensify in all districts of South Bengal from tomorrow and is said to continue till Saturday.
Meanwhile, enhanced rainfall activity are said to intensify in North Bengal from today. Warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall has been issued for Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Alipurduar, Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar and South Dinajpur, whereas an orange alert remains in effect until Friday. All the districts of North Bengal are likely to receive heavy rain during the weekend as well, resulting in the waterlogging of streets and collapse of some buildings.
