A grand meeting for cabinet formation is currently underway in the Parliament and newly-elected MPs of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and allies TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu and JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar, have extended their support to elect Narendra Modi as their bloc’s Parliamentary leader and proposing him to be the next Prime Minister.
Speaking at the NDA parliamentary meet, Modi said that their “alliance is committed to the principle of religious equality.” Modi, along with Naidu and Nitish Kumar, is expected to meet President Droupadi Murmu today to officially stake claim for government formation.
All the 21 NDA members passed a resolution to elect Modi as their leader at a meeting at the Prime Minister"s official residence on Wednesday and appreciated his efforts in nation-building, welfare of the poor, and development, adding that it was a collaborative move.
The meet is being held ahead of the swearing-in ceremony on Sunday (June 9) at 6 pm when Modi will take oath as the Prime Minister for the third consecutive year. Modi had earlier submitted his resignation to the President.
As per the Election Commission of India, the BJP won 240 seats – significantly lower than its 2019 tally of 303. Whereas, the BJP-led NDA has secured 293 seats and the INDIA Bloc has exceeded the 230 mark, with Congress winning 99 seats, that posed a neck-to-neck competition between the rivals.
