The Supreme Court on Friday ruled that shops on Kanwar Yatra route would not be forced to display names of the owners and employees or their numbers.
Staying the directives by Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Uttarakhand governments, the apex court however, said that anyone can mention the details if they would want to voluntarily do so.
“For voluntarily displaying names there is no issue. Our order says that they cannot be forced to put out owner names and employee names outside the dhaba,” the court said.
The top court’s two-judge bench, headed by Justice Hrishikesh Roy and Justice S V N Bhatti, extended its previous interim order of July 22 and would continue till August 5 – the next hearing date.
This decision by the Supreme Court to rule out the practice comes following the Uttar Pradesh government issued a directive on July 19, making it mandatory for shopkeepers on Kanwar Yatra route to display the names of the owners, employees and provide other necessary details of the establishments across all pockets in the state.
