Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a telephonic conversation with Indian Cricket team on Sunday morning and congratulated the ‘Men in Blue’ on their victory over South Africa in the T20 World Cup at Barbados on Saturday.
PM Modi lauded the players for their exemplary performance said their commitment is very motivating. “Spoke to the Indian team and congratulated them on their exemplary success at the T20 World Cup. They have shown excellent skill and spirit throughout the tournament. Each player’s commitment is very motivating,” he said in a tweet.
During a conservation with the, the prime minister also praised Rohit Sharma for his splendid captaincy and made a special mention Virat Kohli for scoring 76 runs and his contribution to Indian cricket.
In addition, Modi highly talked about pacer Jaspreet Bumrah’s contribution and Hardik Pandya for his last-over heroics. He even praised Suryakumar Yadav for his super intelligent and brilliant catch on the boundary lines to dismiss South African batter David Miller.
This was India’s second T20 World Cup victory in 17 years after they had won it in 2007 under the leadership of MS Dhoni in South Africa and also 11 years that Team India won a major ICC title.
