At least eight children were killed and 15 survived injuries after a school bus overturned in Haryana’s Unhani village in Mahendragarh district on Thursday morning, police informed.
Police officials said that the bus belonged to GL Public School and the mishap happened after the driver, who was said to be allegedly drunk, tried to overtake another vehicle. The school was functional despite a holiday on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.
The injured victims were rushed to hospitals at Mahendragarh and Narnaul, of which two were shifted to Rohtak Hospital in critical condition.
Following the incident, Union Home Minister Amit Shah took to X to extend his condolences to the families of the deceased while assuring that the local administration is putting efforts to help the injured ones.
Meanwhile, Mahendragarh police officials said that doctors are now conducting a medical examination of the bus driver to ascertain whether he resorted to drunk driving.
