Incessantly heavy rainfall in Gujarat on Wednesday has created flood-like situation, waterlogging multiple streets in many cities of the state.
As a result of heavy downpours, waterlogging has grappled districts of Porbandar, Junagadh, and Devbhumi Dwarka, leading to road traffic congestion and closure of multiple underpasses and roads. The severe flood-like situation on Wednesday have also waterlogged multiple villages and claimed nine lives.
The inclement weather condition has prompted the Meteorological Department to issue red alert for Maharashtra and Gujarat today. Besides, an orange alert is in place for Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Karnataka, and Goa. Heavy rainfall is also likely in Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Punjab and Haryana till Sunday.
In Gujarat, an elderly woman and her two granddaughters were killed after a dilapidated three-story building collapsed in Jam Khambhalia town amid heavy rainfall in the state"s Saurashtra region, police informed on Wednesday.
In view of rainfall hazard, a joint rescue operation was conducted by police and fire brigade officials in flood-affected areas of Surat on Wednesday. Heavy lashes have also caused widespread waterlogging in Navsari district as well.
