At least 18 people died and 19 survived injuries after a double-decker bus collided with a milk tanker on the Lucknow-Agra expressway in Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao district on Wednesday morning.
The mishap took place around 5 am when the bus on its way to Delhi from Bihar collided with the milk tanker while attempting to overtake it. The collision resulted in the bus to overturn.
According to officials, the bus was mainly migrant workers. All the injured were admitted to nearby hospital immediately following the incident. Of the 19 injured, three are said to be in a critical condition.
Rescue operation is underway. The Unnao district administration has also issued a few helpline numbers for enquiries - (0515-2970767, 9651432703, 9454417447, 8887713617, 8081211289).
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his deep condolences over the tragic incident and announced a financial compensation of Rs 2 lakh from PMNRF for the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured.
“The road accident in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh is extremely painful. My condolences to those who have lost their loved ones in this. May God give them strength in this difficult time. Along with this, I wish for the speedy recovery of the injured. Under the supervision of the state government, the local administration is engaged in helping the victims in every possible way,” PM Modi wrote on X.
