Incessantly heavy rainfall lashed Mumbai and it"s suburbs on Monday early morning, bringing road traffic at a snarl due to excess waterlogging and disruption in rail services as well.
The city recorded 300 mm rai fall for continuous six hours - 1 am to 6 am that hampered public lives as well, according to civic bodies.
Several areas, including Andheri, Kurla, Bhandup, King"s Circle, Vile Parle and Dadar, among other locations, we"re affected in te financial capital owing to excess water accumulation.
"More than 300 millimeters of rain has been recorded at different places in the six-hour period from midnight yesterday to 7 am today. Heavy rains have caused waterlogging in some low-lying areas and suburban rail services have also been disrupted," the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said.
The severely heavy rainfall compelled the BMC to announce a half-day holiday for government and private schools and colleges under the civic body"s jurisdiction.
Highways and important roads that are not inundated saw heavy traffic flow during the rush hour on Monday morning, affecting students and working professionals.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that Mumbai is expected to encounter moderate to heavy rainfall throughout Monday (July 8), adding that more intense rainfall is predicted for the next three to four days.
