At least 11 houses built on government land were demolished in tribal-dominated Mandla in Madhya Pradesh after cops found evidence of illegal cattle trade and recovered 150 cows and refrigerated beef from the homes, a police official said on Saturday.
Mandla Superintendent of Police Rajat Saklecha said that the action was undertaken following a tip-off was received that a large number of cows for slaughter and receovery of beef and other animal products from the houses of the accused in the Bhainwahi area of Nainpur.
“A team was rushed there and we found 150 cows tied in the backyards of the accused. Cow meat was recovered from the refrigerators in the homes of all the11 accused. We also found animal fat, cattle skin and bones, which were stuffed in a room,” he said.
The local government veterinarian has confirmed that the seized meat is beef, the SP said, adding that an FIR was registered on Friday night after the discovery of the cows and beef.

The houses of the 11 accused were demolished as they were on government land. The 150 cows have been sent to a cattle shelter. Bhainswahi area had become a hub of cow smuggling for some time now. Cow slaughter in MP is punishable with a jail term of seven years,” the SP said.
Police sources noted that criminal histories of the accused – all 4 accused Muslims - have been found, with further investigations ongoing.
