The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which sells its dairy products under the brand name ‘Amul’, has imposed a nationwide hike of milk prices by Rs 2 per litre. The revised price will be in effect from June 3, 2024 (Monday) the company said in a statement.
The hike is crucial to meet farmers’ increased cost of production in the dairy sector. The last time GCMMF increased its milk prices was in February 2023.
With this, one litre packet of Amul Taaza will now cost Rs 56 from Rs 54 and the price of one litre of Amul Gold will go up from Rs 66 to Rs 68. Additionally, one litre pouch of cow milk will now cost Rs 57 - a rise by Re 1, whereas, the rate of buffalo milk will be Rs 73 – up by Rs 3 per litre.
Meanwhile, the new rates for all half litre Amul buffalo milk, Amul Gold milk, and Amul Shakti milk will now stand at Rs 36, Rs 33, and Rs 30, respectively.
“The increase of Rs 2 per litre translates to the range of 3-4 per cent increase in MRP which is much lower than the average food inflation. It is worthwhile to note that since February 2023, Amul has made no increase in prices of fresh pouch milk in major markets,” GCMMF said in a statement.
“The price revision shall help in sustaining remunerative milk prices to our milk producers and to encourage them for higher milk production,” it added.
