The blistering heatwave that gripped Rajasthan in the past few days owing to high temperature of 49 degrees, claimed 12 lives this week due to suspected heat stroke.
Four deaths were reported in Jalore, whereas two daily wage workers died in Barmer. Many others from Alwar, Bhilwara, Balotra, and Jaisalmer also died owing to severe heatwave, which is also currently dominating other parts of north India as well.
Kirori Lal Meena, Rajasthan"s Minister of Disaster Management and Relief, said that the state government will provide assistance to all the victims and urged others to be careful.
Meanwhile, north Indian states including Punjab, Haryana, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh have also been sweltering under severe heatwave condition where the temperature touched 45 degrees Celsius on Thursday.
Owing to abnormally hot weather condition, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a ‘red’ warning on Thursday for Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh, suggesting “extreme care” for vulnerable people.
