Passengers in Kochi and Chennai will now be able to book metro tickets with the help of Google Maps later this week, the tech giant announced on Thursday. This unique facility will pave way for passengers to no longer stand in long queues during peak hours to avail the transport service.
Only android mobile users will be able to enjoy this benefit in Kochi and Chennai currently. Namma Yatri will be take care of the ticket booking and payment processes.
Google collaborated with the government-backed Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) and Namma Yatri and announced the feature in December last year. According to media reports, Google has plans to expand this service of availing metro tickets to other metro cities as well.
All the passengers need to do to avail the service is search for public transport directions in these two cities. Users will then be guided through the booking and payment process and receive the QR code ticket, making it a hassle-free way to travel to different places, Google said.
