The Indian Army foiled an infiltration attempt by terrorists along the line of control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Battal sector in the early hours of Tuesday. One soldier sustained injuries in the exchange of heavy firing between the army personnel and with infiltrating terrorists.

The exchange of firing happened during the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday in the Poonch district"s Battal sector and the operations are currently ongoing, the Military’s White Knight Corps said in a statement on X. The injured soldier was admitted to hospital later.

“Alert troops foiled an infiltration bid by effectively engaging infiltrating terrorists with effective fire in the Battal sector at 0300h. During the exchange of heavy fire, one braveheart has been injured. Operations are continuing,” Indian Army"s White Knight Corps (16 Corps) said in a post on X. 

The firing comes a day after terrorists attacked the house of a Village Defence Guard (VDG) member in Gundha, Rajouri on Monday, which targeted Parshottam Kumar, who was recently awarded the Shaurya Chakra by President Droupadi Murmu for his significant role in an anti-terror operation in 2023. However, an alert Army unit responded swiftly, that prevented any major loss.

There has been a surge in a spate of terror activities recently mostly in the Jammu region, resulting in the deaths of 48 army soldiers while fighting with terrorists in the region.

Two army personnel were wounded in a gunfight with terrorists in Doda last Friday. Terrorists also attacked a temporary camp at a government school in Jaddan Bata village around 2 am, that critically injured a soldier who was hospitalised in Udhampur.

In addition, four army personnel, including an officer, were killed in a gunfight last Tuesday with heavily armed terrorists in Doda region.

Again, five soldiers were killed and five others sustained injuries last week when terrorists ambushed in Kathua district’s Machedi forest belt.

Army chief General Upendra Dwivedi visited the Union territory on Saturday to discuss ways to deal with the recent spurt in terror attacks in the area that was completely free from terrorism a few years ago.

Security forces have been working towards strategies to search and kill the terrorists involved in firing. Meanwhile, the Army pressed into service more troops and Para Special Forces commandos in order to further counter the terror attacks by the highly trained terrorists in the Jammu region.
