Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Austria’s capital city Vienna on Wednesday following a two-day visit in Russia. Upon his arrival, the prime minister was welcomed by Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg at the airport.
This is the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister in the European country in 41 years after Indira Gandhi in 1983.
PM Modi later received a warm welcome by Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer at a private dinner on Wednesday and expressed confidence in strengthening the friendship between India and Austria in the near future.
“Welcome to Vienna, PM Narendra Modi! It is a pleasure and honour to welcome you to Austria. Austria and India are friends and partners. I look forward to our political and economic discussions during your visit!” the Austrian Chancellor tweeted.
PM Modi expressed his gratitude to the Chancellor saying, “The India-Austria friendship is strong, and it will get even stronger in the times to come.”
“Thank you, Chancellor @karlnehammer, for the warm welcome. Our nations will continue working together to further global good,” he later tweeted.
The Prime Minister and the Chancellor will also interact with other business leaders from Austria and India.
Ahead of his visit to Austria, Modi also said that the shared values of democracy, freedom, and the rule of law form the robust foundation upon which the two countries will establish an everlasting partnership.
