Delhi and its adjoining areas received incessantly heavy rainfall in the early hours on Friday, that waterlogged many areas across the city, bringing traffic flow at a snarl.
Apart from Delhi, Gurgaon and Noida have also witnessed waterlogged streets and traffic congestion owing to heavy lashes in the national capital.
The flood-like situation also disrupted flight operations in the national capital. A portion of a roof of Terminal 1 at Indira Gandhi International Airport in the national capital collapsed this morning, killing one person and injuring six others.
Knee-deep water was also witnessed at New Delhi Railway station and various metro stops, adding further discomfort to the passengers.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that southwest monsoon has entered Delhi and such weather condition is expected to prevail here for the next one week, predicting cloudy skies and severe downpours accompanied by gusty winds.
For the next two days, Delhi is likely to experience cooler weather conditions owing to temperature drops below 36 degrees Celsius, accompanied by light to moderate thunderstorm with a wind speed of 30-40 kmph. The Delhi Traffic Police has therefore advised daily commuters to plan their journey accordingly with caution.
With the torrential rainfall that brought the national capital to a standstill, the entire city received the highest rainfall on June 28 in the last 88 years.
