Kolkata woke up to a cloudy morning on Thursday and residents witnessed light rain today. However, humidity continues to persist and the weather did not turn out to be pleasant.
Meanwhile, the Alipore Meteorological Department has predicted continuous rainfall in South Bengal owing to the cyclone formation over Bay of Bengal. Scattered moderate to heavy downpours is likely for four consecutive days from Saturday in all districts of South Bengal.
According to the Meteorological Department, a favourable condition for heavy rains will develop in South Bengal from Friday afternoon, which will later turn into a deep depression, causing the southerly monsoon to become more active.
The southwest monsoon will later enter the rest of the districts of South Bengal in three to four days from Saturday, bringing in heavy rainfall in East Midnapore, North and South 24 Parganas, Nadia, Murshidabad, Birbhum over the weekend.
The amount of rain will intensify in Kolkata from Saturday. On the other hand, heavy rain will continue in the upper five districts of North Bengal.
