Acclaimed filmmaker Karan Johar remembered his father and penned a soul-stirring message for his late father Yash Johar on his 20th death anniversary. He took to his Instagram handle to express his genuine feelings and love for his father.

The ‘Student of the Year’ director shared a picture of his dear dad who is seen holding a trophy and wrote a beautiful caption alongside the post, saying that his worst nightmare turned into reality when his father admitted to him that he has malignant tumour.

“I can’t believe it’s been 20 years. My biggest fear was losing a parent. August 2nd,2003 my father told me he had a malignant tumour. my worst nightmare was staring at me and yet it was my duty as his child to stay positive and keep the faith. but the worst thing about instincts are that they never lie. He left us 10 months after... We lost him (sic),” Karan wrote.

Talking about his kids, the 52-year-old filmmaker also said that he feels that his father is watching over his son’s kids from above.

He added the same in the rest of his caption which read, “but we gained every inch of his mammoth goodwill. I was so proud to be the son of the most solid, soulful and selfless man. He put his relationships above everything else and has left a legacy of love that my mother and I still live by. I wish he knew our children. But I do know he’s watching over them and us all the time. Love you Papa (sic).”

Yash Johar, who was also an established Bollywood filmmaker, died in June 2004 when Karan Johar was making ‘Kal Ho Na Ho’.

The ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’ director also revealed that Farhan Akhtar-directed ‘Lakshya’ was the film his father watched at a premiere. The movie starred Preity Zinta and Hrithik Roshan.

“He came back from the premiere so proud of @faroutakhtar, @zoieakhtar and @hrithikroshan and told me he had seen them grow up and blessed them. Lakshya will be special to me in so many ways. he also met the entire industry at the premiere,” the filmmaker stated, adding that he is grateful that his father could say his final goodbye to his film family at the screening.

Many Bollywood celebrities, including Priyanka Chopra, Zoya Akhtar, Janhvi Kapoor, Riddhima Kapoor Sahni and Hrithik Roshan commented on Karan’s post and paid their tributes to the late director. 

Yash Johar founded his production house in the name of Dharma Productions in 1979 and produced many successful films. After his demise, Karan took over charge of the company and went on to direct ten movies including ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’ last year, which featured Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt in lead roles.
