Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be heading to Italy on Thursday (June 13) to attend the 57th G7 leaders’ summit, marking his first visit to a foreign land after assuming office for the third term.
Italy extended an invitation to PM Modi to attend the mega summit in the outreach session scheduled for June 14. PM Modi will exchange bilateral talks with Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni about the scope of future developments of both the countries.
The summit will be held at the luxurious Borgo Egnazia resort in Italy’s Apulia region from June 13 to 15 and discussions regarding a wide range of issues, including the Russia-Ukraine war and the Israel-Hamas conflict are expected.
Additionally, Artificial Intelligence (AI), climate change, global challenges, Africa, and the Mediterranean are also the subjects of discussions.
PM Modi is also expected to meet US President Joe Biden on the sidelines of the G7 Summit, informed National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan.
“He (Biden) expects to see Prime Minister Modi here. It’s up to the Indians to formally confirm his attendance, but our expectation is that the two of them will have the opportunity to encounter one another,” Sullivan said.
Others advanced economies participating in the summit include the United States France, Canada, Germany, Japan, Ukraine, the United Kingdom along with the European Union.
India has earlier attended ten previous summits and the latest one will be PM Modi’s fifth consecutive participation in the G7 Summit.
