Narendra Modi will take oath as the Prime Minister, along with other members of the new cabinet today for the third consecutive year after the NDA secured majority votes in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections for their government formation.

The ceremony will take place at the Rashtrapati Bhawan in the national capital at 7:15 pm. He will be the second three-term Prime Minister after Congress stalwart Jawaharlal Nehru.

Officials said that over 8,000 guests, including various professionals and cultural performers are expected to attend the mega event. Leaders from India’s neigbouring countries including Bhutan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Mauritius may attend the programme.

In addition, while Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge will be representing the Opposition party at the swearing-in ceremony, Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee said her party will not attend the event.

Following the event, President Droupadi Murmu will host a banquet for the dignitaries at the Rashtrapati Bhawan.   

Apart from big leaders, Vande Bharat loco pilot Aishwarya S Menon from Chennai Railway Division and Asia’s first female loco pilot, Surekha Yadav, have been invited to the event.

Additionally, sanitary workers, transgender staff and labourers who made significant contribution to the Central Vista Project will be the guests of honour for the ceremony.

This apart, several notable religious leaders, lawyers, doctors, artists, cultural performers, and influencers have been invited to be part of the programme. In addition, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri awardees, will be in attendance.
