Although Prime Minister Narendra Modi emerged victorious from Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, it failed to cross the 300-mark. Despite the ruling alliance all set to form the government, the emerging trends came as a big blow to the BJP-led NDA government, which suffered heavy losses in Rajasthan and Haryana. The biggest despair has come from Uttar Pradesh where the party exercised maximum power.

Its rival, the INDIA Bloc is leading in about 230 seats, making a significant breakthrough in several states.

However, its significant gains in Odisha and Telangana came as a big relief and also helped BJP-led NDA to stay ahead of the magic figure.

In what came as a surprise, the Congress-led coalition has defied the exit polls which predicted a landslide victory for BJP following the conclusion of the seventh and final phase of Lok Sabha Elections on June 1.

Following BJP’s marginal win, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee thanked the people of the state and raised her voice for Modi’s immediate resignation. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi must resign. He should resign since he has lost all credibility. He had said "400 paar", but is now falling to the feet of TDP. The BJP won"t be able to pass laws as per their whims. Akhilesh Yadav said they are not giving certificates even after winning so some seats can be increased for the BJP,” said Mamata Banerjee.

Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi expressed his gratitude to the countrymen saying that the country has rejected Modi and Shah. “This election was a fight to save the Constitution, said Rahul Gandhi. The fight was to save the Constitution. In my mind, I knew the people of the country will fight together to save the Constitution. I want to thank the people from the bottom of my heart. Congress leaders did several things this election. We respected the partners of the INDIA bloc and gave a new pro-poor vision to the country. I am extremely proud of the people of the country who resisted this onslaught on the Constitution. The nation has rejected PM Modi and Amit Shah,” Gandhi said.
