As thick black clouds blanketed multiple parts of Kolkata, heavy rainfall accompanied by moderately strong winds made its way in the city on Monday morning, giving respite from scorching heat as it brought down the temperature.
The Alipore Meteorological Department last week predicted heavy rainfall on Monday in Kolkata and other parts of south Bengal. Rainfall is also expected in Nadia, Murshidabad, Birbhum, East Burdwan, North 24 Parganas and South 24 Parganas. Such weather condition is expected to prevail in south Bengal till Wednesday. Meanwhile, heavy rainfall is also expected in various parts of north Bengal.
The maximum and minimum temperatures in Kolkata today stood at 37 degrees and 29 degrees Celsius respectively. However, polling for the fifth phase of Lok Sabha elections continues across Bengal despite heavy downpours.
