After Delhi and Ahmedabad, at least 10 schools in Kanpur received bomb threats via email on Wednesday, triggering widespread panic among school staff, parents and students in the city. The emails are said to have come from servers based in Russia.
The incident developed amid a spate of such emails that threatened schools and hospitals in Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Jaipur and Delhi-NCR, with Kanpur being the new addition now.
Meanwhile, an email threatening to blow up eight private schools in Bengaluru also put police in a tizzy on Tuesday. The city’s popular hospital chain, St Philomena, also received a bomb threat last week.
Bengaluru Scottish School, Bhavan Bangalore School, Jain Heritage School, Deeksha High School, Edify Schools, Chitrakoota School, Gangothri International Public School, and Giridhanva School were among those which received bomb threats through email from the same domain, ‘beeble.com’.
Delhi’s Deepchand Bandhu Hospital, Dada Dev Hospital, Hedgewar Hospital and Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital, received bomb threat emails on Tuesday morning. The city’s Indira Gandhi International Airport also received bomb threats earlier. All these, however, turned out to be hoaxes.
