Delhi Police amped up security around Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence at Lok Kalyan Marg in New Delhi in the wake of Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) call for a ‘gherao’ protest against the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the excise policy case.
The Delhi Police has also tightened security across multiple parts of the national capital, which could obstruct smooth traffic flow across the city. Additional security personnel have also been deployed to keep the situation under control.
Meanwhile, Section 144 of the CrPC has already been imposed around PM Modi’s residence and also prohibits protests in the area.
Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the ED on March 21 in connection with Delhi liquor policy scam. The central agency alleged that Kejriwal solicited kickbacks from liquor traders in return for favours. In addition, Kejriwal is accused of being the key conspirator of the now-scrapped excise policy in alliance with the AAP leaders and several other ministers.
