Google often celebrates remarkable days with its Doodle and it surprised the Internet users on March 11, with an illustrated animation of ‘flat white coffee.’ This popular coffee drink is believed to have originated from Australia and New Zealand in 1980s. The term ‘flat white’ was added in the Oxford English dictionary in 2011.
A ‘flat white’ is made up of espresso shot with a top layer of steamed milk and milk foam that is traditionally served in a ceramic cup.
“Today’s animated Doodle celebrates the flat white, a beloved coffee drink of steamed milk poured over a shot of espresso. Many speculate the drink was first served in Australia and New Zealand during the 1980s when the drink popped up on menus in Sydney and Auckland around the same time,” Google explained on its website.
“Coffee culture has changed a lot over the years and so have ways to make the flat white. Made with whole milk back in the day, today it’s common to see Aussies and Kiwis ordering it with plant-based milk — oat milk is a rising favourite! Traditionally served in a ceramic cup, a flat white is made up of an espresso shot topped with steamed milk and a thin layer of microfoam.” it added.
Meanwhile, flat white coffee can offer several potential health benefits when consumed in moderation. Like other types of coffee, flat white is rich in antioxidants and can improve cognitive health, manage weight, improve physical performance and lower the risk of Type-2 diabetes.
