Prime Minister Narendra Modi distributed drones to 1,000 Namo Drone Didis at the Indian Agricultural Research Institute in Delhi on Monday (March 11).
Such women from 11 different locations nationwide will participate in Sashakt Nari - Viksit Bharat programme in presence of the prime minister today.
The Namo Drone Didi initiative is aimed at promoting women empowerment, especially in the rural areas. The drones will be used for advanced agricultural practices with crop monitoring, fertilizer spraying and seed sowing, paving way for numerous women to have an additional income.
Through this initiative, 15,000 Self Help Groups (SHGs) will be connected with the aim of training women to become drone pilots.
Meanwhile, Modi has also felicitated Lakhpati Didis, who have achieved success with the support of Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana - National Rural Livelihoods Mission, simultaneously supporting and motivating other Self-Help Group members for their upliftment.
