Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi will be put behind the bars for 14 years in Toshakhana case, the country’s special court announced the verdict on Wednesday.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), which ousted Khan as PM in 2022 said that the former PM will be restricted from holding public office for 10 years.
Along with the 14-year prison terms, the couple has also been ordered to pay a fine of over 1.5 billion rupees.
A spokesman for his party described the ruling as, “Another sad day in our judicial system history, which is being dismantled.”
The latest development took place just a day after Imran was sentenced to 10 years in jail on Tuesday as he was found guilty for leaking state’s secret information.
These recent convictions come just a week before Pakistan’s elections on February 8, where he is barred from campaigning the elections.
Khan, on his X account, released a statement saying that he had told his followers to “take revenge for every injustice with your vote on February 8 while remaining peaceful.”
