At least 50 flights have been either cancelled or rescheduled to Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, and Indore owing to severe rainfall in multiple parts of Mumbai on Monday morning.
Mumbai airport authorities issued an advisory asking its passengers to check flight status before leaving for the airport.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier issued an orange alert for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and the Konkan belt. Vikhroli’s Veer Savarkar Marg Municipal School and MCMCR Powai witnessed the maximum rainfall of over 315 mm in the last 24 hours.
Meanwhile, rail services have also impacted nearly 30 lakh commuters as torrential downpours led to waterlogging, disrupting several railway stations, including Dombivli station, Kasara and Titwala stations in Thane, among others. Several others were also trains were diverted, rescheduled or terminated due to waterlogging between Kalyan and Kasara stations of Mumbai division.
Schools, colleges, private and government-run offices have also been shut owing to incessantly heavy rainfall. Highways and busy roads not submerged under water saw heavy traffic during the rush hour on Monday morning, affecting students and working professionals.
