Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit Russia in July and will meet President Vladimir Putin. This will be Modi’s first visit after Russia invaded Ukraine in early 2022.
The Kremlin had earlier said in March that Modi had an open invitation to visit Russia. Notably, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held talks with Putin during his 5-day visit to Russia in December last year and said that it will give an opportunity to hold discussions on current issues and strengthen bilateral
relations.
“We will be able to discuss all current issues, talk about the outlook for the development of Russian-Indian relations. We have a very large amount of work to do,” the Russian President further said.
India and Russia have always maintained cordial relations despite the latter’s invasion of Ukraine. Meanwhile, India has not yet condemned the Russian invasion, saying that the crisis can be resolved through diplomatic dialogues.
Modi took oath as the Prime Minister of India on June 9 after coming back to power for the third consecutive term following the general elections, whereas Putin was sworn-in as the President of Russia for the fifth consecutive time in May this year.
