Residents of the national capital is sizzling in extreme heatwave condition and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘red alert’ on Tuesday for such abnormally scorching summer.
As the severe heatwave has been sweeping Delhi for the past few weeks now, the weather body predicted the temperature will likely be 45 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature will likely be 34 degrees Celsius today. The night temperatures are also expected to be warm.
However, some relief is expected from Wednesday (June 19) as a fresh western disturbance will approach northwest India, even affecting the national capital.
The IMD Bulletin also mentioned heatwave to severe heatwave conditions in multiple parts of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Bihar, Chandigarh, isolated parts of Himachal Pradesh this week. The maximum temperature in Delhi was recorded at 45.2 degrees Celsius on Monday.
Meanwhile, hot and humid weather condition will prevail in Odisha and West Bengal on Tuesday and in Jharkhand on Thursday.
On the other hand, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in parts of West Bengal and Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh till Friday and in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura till Wednesday. Odisha may receive isolate heavy downpours on Thursday and Friday.
