Congress MP Rahul Gandhi filed his nomination papers for Uttar Pradesh’s Rae Bareli Lok Sabha seat at the district magistrate’s office. The development took place in the presence of the party’s General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi, former Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot, Robert Vadra.
After the nomination was filed, Congress wrote on X, “This election is an election to protect democracy in the country, it is an election to establish justice by defeating injustice. We will protect democracy at all costs. We will fight and win (sic).”
Meanwhile, Kishori Lal Sharma will be contesting from Amethi against BJP’s Smriti Irani. Priyanka Gandhi is contesting neither from Rae Bareli nor Amethi. This sets a record of a non-Gandhi contesting from Amethi for the first time in 25 years.
Rae Bareli is considered one of the safest seats for the Congress as, of the 20 elections the party has witnessed so far, it has won 17, thereby bringing in hope in Rahul Gandhi to win this time as well.
