The Maharashtra Cyber Cell Department has summoned actress Tamannaah Bhatia for questioning on April 29 in connection with illegal streaming of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 matches on FairPlay application.
According to police officials, Bhatia and some other actors including Jacqueline Fernandez have allegedly promoted viewing the IPL matches and accepting bets on the gaming application, that prompted company Viacom to suffer huge losses of crores of money due to illegal streaming. Sources aware of the incident said that the agency will record Bhatia’s statement as a witness related to this case.
The department has also summoned actor Sanjay Dutt on April 23 for questioning, but he failed to appear before it as he was abroad on this date.
Officials added that they promoted and endorsed the app, which had put up hoardings in many parts of the city for live telecast of the matches last year, without the consent of Viacom that had exclusive rights to live stream the tournament. This has compelled Viacom to face a financial loss of nearly Rs 100 crores, following which the media company had filed a complaint against the actors.
