A local court on Wednesday has sent Mihir Shah – the main accused in the Worli hit-and-run case – to seven-day police custody till July 16. Shah, son of Shiv Sena leader, was arrested by Mumbai Police on Tuesday after being on the run for 72 hours.
Mihir Shar, 24, is accused of killing a 45-year-old woman named Kaveri Nakhwa and injuring her husband Pradip who were on their scooter when his luxury sedan, that he was driving, rammed into the two-wheeler. The incident happened in Worli at 5:30 am on Sunday.
Mihir’s driver Rajrishi Bidawat was sitting next to him on the passenger seat when the accident happened. Police sources said that Mihir admitted of switching seats with his driver and fleeing from the scene thereafter. He also confessed of attempting to disguise himself by shaving his beard.
According to the police, it was Rajesh Shah who actively helped Mihir escape from the scene and instructed their driver to take responsibility of the accident to save his son. Rajesh Shah was later arrested for providing misinformation and destroying evidence.
The horrific incident took place hours after Mihir partied with his friends at a pub in Mumbai’s Juhu, demolishing an illegally constructed portion of the pub. The bar was sealed on Tuesday.
