Prime Minister Narendra Modi asserted on Wednesday that he would not let reservations for Scheduled Tribe (ST), Scheduled Caste (SC), OBCs and Dalits go in the hands of Muslims in the name of religion till he is alive.
The prime minister made the remark while addressing a Lok Sabha rally in Telangana’s Medak district in response to the Congress allegations that BJP would change the Constitution and scrap reservations.
“Till the time I am alive, I will not let them give the reservation meant for Dalits, SCs, STs, and OBCs to the Muslims in the name of religion,” Modi said, claiming that Congress gave the reservation of backward classes to Muslims when the party won a record number of MPs and MLAs in undivided Andhra Pradesh in 2004 and 2009.
He also criticised that the Congress granted OBC status to Muslims “overnight” when actually 26 castes of Telangana were seeking for it for a long time, further alleging the party (at the time of Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi) of insulting the Constitution by removing drawings of Ramayana and Mahabharat given by BR Ambedkar.
Modi also expressed confidence in celebrating 75 years of the Constitution in their third tenure.
He also said that the Congress is planning to impose a 55 percent tax on inheritance if they come to power. “If Congress comes to power, they will bring inheritance tax. Congress is planning to collect more than half- 55 per cent as tax on inheritance (received from parents),” Modi claimed.
