Nutritionist Arpita Roychowdhury said that while there is no harm in coffee or tea consumption, the results could be counterproductive if consumed in excess.
The health expert cautioned that frequent drinking of tea and coffee in a day reduces appetite.
Both the beverages contain caffeine that inhibits iron to absorb blood in the body. Meanwhile, it is better for pregnant women who drink tea or coffee in excess may suffer from iron deficiency. In addition, frequent drinking of tea or coffee with milk can aggravate gastric problems.
The nutritionist hence suggested opting for green tea as a substitute which is a healthier option as well than any other ordinary tea or coffee. Green tea acts contains antioxidant that are known to destroy pre-radicals.
She also emphasised on eating seasonal fruits and vegetables as they contain essential nutrients that keep the body physically and mentally active. At the same time, it is important to increase the amount of protein in the diet. Further, frequent drinking of water is absolutely essential to keep the body hydrated. Dehydration can lead to muscle cramps or muscle strain. Besides water consumption, drinking coconut water, soup and fruit juice regularly must also be prioritized for body hydration.
