Here’s what you should eat to keep blood pressure under control

Hypertension or high blood pressure has become a common problem nowadays in almost every Indian household. Akin to diabetes, continuous rise in the number of patients with high blood pressure is said to have becoming a big concern across the country. Poor eating habits and a sedentary lifestyle contribute to this disease. Hypertension, if untreated, can cause heart failure, dementia, memory problems and the like. Doctors advise that besides medications, adapting a healthy eating habit is essential to protect oneself from high blood pressure.

  1. Switching to breads made of maize of jowar are healthier alternatives to atta or maida breads.  The former are rich in antioxidants, fibre, protein and minerals which keep blood pressure under control.
  2. Eat raita and add cucumber in it. This dish is very refreshing and keeps the body cool and hydrated. Besides, it is also responsible for reducing the problem of hypertension. 
  3. A recipe of ladyfinger with curd is extremely beneficial to protect oneself from hypertension owing to its useful nutrients. Besides its deicious taste, this dish can be cooked in just 30 minutes. Health experts recommend using only a pinch of oil to prepare this dish.
  4. Additionally, one of the excellent pulses – moong dal is rich in potassium, fibre and iron and keeps BP at bay. You can make a paste of moong dal and mix a few onion and chilies to make pancakes for breakfast.
  5. Rajma salad is also said to control blood pressure. Besides, eating a mixture of boiled rajma, onion, tomato, spring oyster, walnut, almond, a little black pepper, salt, lemon juice either in the morning or afternoon also help promote weight loss, maintain blood sugar level, aids digestion and plays a significant role in cancer prevention.
