The Supreme Court has granted an interim bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal till June 1 in connection with the excise policy scam.
A bench of Justice comprising Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta granted the bail in view of the ongoing Lok Sabha elections. However, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) opposed the move saying that it was not a constitutional right.
The central probe agency said that “any special concession” to him will “amount to anathema to the rule of law and equality… thereby creating two separate classes in the country viz. ordinary people, who are bound by the rule of law as well as the laws of the country, and politicians who can seek exemption from the laws.”
The Aam Aadmi Party leader was arrested by ED from his official residence in Delhi on March 21 in the now-scrapped liquor case.
