AstraZeneca on Tuesday announced that it has withdrawn the manufacturing and sales of Covid-19 vaccines globally, citing availability of plentiful newer updated vaccines to give better protection from the virus.
According to media reports, the company said, “As multiple, variant Covid-19 vaccines have since been developed there is a surplus of available updated vaccines,” adding that this has resulted in a sharp fall in demand for Vaxzevria, which is no longer being manufactured or supplied.
The development comes shortly after AstraZeneca admitted that its vaccine Covishield can cause rare side effects such as blood clots, low blood platelets or even thrombosis with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome (TTS) in “very rare cases.”
