Delhi Police has raided two factories on May 1 in north-east Delhi Karawal Nagar area and seized 15 tonnes of adulterated spices such as coriander powder, turmeric powder and others. Three individuals including the owners were arrested in connection with the production and sale of these spices.
It is reported that the spices were mixed with spoiled leaves, rice, millets, wood dust, chilli heads, acids, and substandard oils and those arrested were accused of supplying the fake items to local vendors in Delhi/NCR for the same price as the original products.
Police are investigating the case and a thorough probe has resulted in the discovery of another manufacturing unit at Kali Khata Road, Karawal Nagar.
As per a statement by DCP, the Department of Food & Safety was informed, which conducted inspections, collected samples of the recovered adulterated spices from both factories and a case had been registered under relevant sections of the law. In addition, all the three accused Dilip Singh (46), Sarfaraj (32) - owner of the units - and Khurseed Malik (42) have been apprehended.
Singh and Sarfaraj confessed during interrogation that they set up their establishments in 2021 to earn more profit by selling adulterated spices.
